Energy Healing FAQ

What is Energy Healing?

Whether you call it Energy Healing, Energetic Healing, Energy Work or Energy Medicine they are all terms for any therapy that manipulates the energy circuits in our physical or subtle bodies to regain balance and facilitate our body’s innate healing mechanisms. With the conscious and skilled use of therapeutic modalities it benefits the recipient on subtle and emotional levels, as well as in their general and physical well-being.

Since everything is energy at a core level, all healing ultimately involves energy. Most healing methods are focused on the physical, mental and emotional levels of life, without recognition of the deeper underlying energy. Energy healing works purely with the energetic level of our being. Because everything is made up of patterns of energy, working directly with energy influences the physical, mental and emotional, as well as the spiritual level. Energy healing is thus by nature “holistic”.

Some of the Benefits of Energy Healing:

  • Creates deep relaxation and aids the body to release stress and tension
  • It accelerates the body’s self-healing abilities
  • Aids better sleep
  • Reduces blood pressure
  • Can help with acute (injuries) and chronic problems (asthma, eczema, headaches, etc.) and aides the breaking of addictions
  • Helps relieve pain
  • Removes energy blockages, adjusts the energy flow of the endocrine system bringing the body into balance and harmony
  • Assists the body in cleansing itself from toxins
  • Reduces some of the side effects of drugs and helps the body to recover from drug therapy after surgery and chemotherapy
  • Supports the immune system
  • Increases vitality and postpones the aging process
  • Raises the vibrational frequency of the body
  • Helps spiritual growth and emotional clearing

When we are relaxed and stress-free, we are able to restore our natural ability to heal. When a person is in good health, regular energy healing therapy will increase the bodies built-in defenses. This will manifest itself as confidence and outward harmony in dealing with everyday events. The person will gain a positive outlook on life.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of energetic, physical and spiritual healing. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”

It is administered by a trained practitioner who channels this life force energy through their hands and into the receiver. If one’s energetic system is blocked or out of balance, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is clear and vibrant, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

What is Holistic Healing?

Holistic healing is a form of alternative health care that integrates the whole person in the healing process: body, mind, emotion, spirit and life force (chi) energy. It also commonly incorporates a melding of several different, yet complimentary healing methods.

What can I expect during a Holistic Energy Healing Session?

Each holistic energy healing session is completely customized for every client, so every session will be different based on the client’s needs at that time, and each person will perceive the results differently than someone else. With energy healing in general, whatever you feel is just right for you. Energy healing can be a very relaxing and comforting experience. For some, a treatment feels like a wonderful and subtle energy is flowing all around and through them. Others may experience a deep meditative state, sometimes falling asleep, and later becoming calm, centered, and recharged. Some describe the feeling of giving, accepting, and the rebalancing of life energy force as a tingling sensation (pins and needles), or muscles twitching, or warmth, coolness, or even throbbing or numbness. And there are those who may feel a burning sensation, fatigue or body movement, dizziness, drowsiness, vertigo, or an uncontrollable need to laugh or cry. Clients often report feeling heat emitting from the healer’s hands, due to the exchange of energy.

Some people don’t feel anything during the first couple of sessions, but are able to increase their sensitivity over time and enjoy the experience and benefits. It should also be noted that a person does not have to feel anything or believe in  energy healing for it to work properly, but they should not resist it. They should have an openness and accept that it might work at some level. It’s well worth the effort, so keep doing it.

Because each energy healing session is tailored to your specific needs. We begin by creating an intimate dialog that helps us determine what combination of theses modalities would best suit your unique situation. By combining the healing powers of several different modalities such as Reiki, guided meditation, sound healing, chakra clearing/balancing, aromatherapy and strategically placed, natural crystals and stones you can experience profound healing on all levels.

Once on the treatment table you breathe in the aroma of essential oils as your entire body is being bathed in a symphony of Solfeggio sound healing frequencies. The vibrations of the metal and crystal singing bowls that are being played are felt deep within your being as you resonate with the energies of the crystals that are placed along your chakras. The Reiki used by Sharon Seraphina here at Crystal Ritual Spa is supercharged through a process called Quantum Touch. Energy shifts as you release what is no longer serving you and you receive the healing touch. You melt into the peace and serenity that resides here and you find yourself thinking… “Wow, I’m definitely coming back for more.”

What is Sound Healing?

Sound healing is the therapeutic application of sound frequencies to the body/mind of a person with the intention of bringing them into a state of harmony and health.

When an organ or body part is healthy, it creates a natural resonant frequency in harmony with the rest of the body. When the vibration of a part of the body is out of harmony, we have dis-ease. With dis-ease, a different sound pattern is established in the affected part of the body. When sound is projected into the dis-eased area, correct harmonic patterns are restored.

There are many methods of healing with sound. Mantras and chants have been used for thousands of years. Many acoustic instruments are used in a variety of ways to effect change. The human voice is perhaps the most powerful musical instrument.

Fabien Maman, in his book The Role of Music in the Twenty-First Century, gives dramatic accounts of the effects of sound on cancer cells, using various acoustic instruments and notes, as well as the human voice. He has incorporated the use of sound, color and movement in his work, addressing the subtle bodies, where dis-ease is created.

The use of sound healing therapy is not just a new age phenomenon, but extends back thousands of years into the ancient times where mystical instruments of all kinds were used to remedy illnesses and revive the spirit. From the Aboriginal use of the didgeridoo to heal physical ailments, the ancient oriental use of the gong for spiritual attunement, the use of mantras as with the Hindis, the Icaros (medicine melodies) of various Indigenous peoples from Central and South America, or to the music therapy that has been used in many cultures and traditions for thousands of years.

How does it work?

Sound helps to facilitate shifts in our brainwave state by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes our fluctuating brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwave can attune to. By using rhythm and frequency, we can entrain our brainwaves and it then becomes possible to down-shift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness), and even reach theta (meditative state) and delta (sleep; where internal healing can occur).

The human body is made up of 70% water; this makes it a very good conductor of sound.

Modern medicine now uses sound waves to break up kidney and gallstones in the body. The machine used is called a Lithotripter. This machine bombards the stones with a specific sound frequency for one to two hours. The patient is admitted in the morning and discharged in the evening. Generally no anaesthetic is needed. With most patients only one treatment is necessary to break the stones down. The pulverised stone is passed out of the body through the urine.

High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is now used in some NHS hospitals and private clinics to treat prostate cancer. The therapy closely targets tumours, causing much less damage to healthy tissue than conventional surgery or radiotherapy.

Every organ, every bone, every cell in the body has its own resonant frequency. Together they make up a composite frequency like the instruments of an orchestra. When one organ in the body is out of tune it will affect the whole body.

Through the principle of resonance it is possible to use sound to bring the body back into harmony hence avoiding the need for drugs or surgery.

What are Chakras?

As the universe is composed of spinning wheels of energy, we too, at the inner core, spin seven wheel-like energy centers called chakras. They are measurable patterns of electromagnetic activity, centers for the reception, assimilation and transmission of life energies. Each chakra reflects essential aspects of consciousness, forming the master programs that govern our lives, loves, learning and illumination. Anodea Judith, in her book Wheels of Life, delivers a comprehensive treatise that is scientific, cultural, psychological, and esoteric. She writes:

“Chakras can be open, closed or any of the various stages in between. These states may be basic aspects of someone’s personality throughout most of their life, or something that changes from moment to moment, in response to a situation. An ailing chakra may be unable to change its state easily, being “stuck” in either an open or a closed state. Then the chakra needs healing, by uncovering and removing whatever is blocking it.”

“The seven major chakras are all inseparably interrelated. A block in the functioning of one chakra may affect the activity of the one above or below it. For example, one may have trouble with personal power (third chakra) because of a block in communication (fifth chakra) or vice versa. Or perhaps the real problem may lie in their heart (fourth chakra) and only manifests in these other areas because it is buried so deeply. In examining the theoretical System as a whole and applying it to your system (lower case) as it uniquely occurs within you, one learns to sort out these subtleties and patterns and make self-improvements according to their goals.”

There are times when we desire our chakras to be open, when we are receiving information or healing. There are also times, as when we are in traffic, that we want some of them to be closed!

Color is visible sound, and sound is auditory color. Both light and sound affect the chakras, especially when used in conjunction. Each of the energy centers is associated with a specific tone of the musical scale and with a specific color. Red, the color that vibrates the slowest, corresponds to the root chakra. The colors follow a rainbow progression, with violet as the highest vibration, corresponding with the crown chakra.

Following is a simple correspondence chart of chakras, colors and notes.

Energy Center Location Element Issues Right Color Note
1 st Root Base of spine Earth Physical needs To have Red C
2nd Sacral Lower abdomen Water Sexuality, emotions To feel Orange D
3rd Solar Plexus Solar plexus Fire Power, vitality To act Yellow E
4th Heart Heart Air Love To love Green F
5th Throat Throat Sound Communication To speak Blue G
6th Third Eye Brow Light Intuition To see Indigo A
7th Crown Top of Head Thought Understanding To know Violet B

What is a Chakra Clearing or Chakra Balancing?

Chakra balancing is a service performed by a trained practitoner. When you have a physical issue, it creates weaknesses in your emotional behavior. If there are certain fears and emotions you are holding on to, you experience physical restrictions, too. When the blocked or stagnant energy is released from the body, it can undo any tightness, stiffness, or malfunction of that area. Therefore, having the disharmonious energies cleared can correct energy imbalances in our emotional and physical bodies thus preventing these imbalances from developing into physical ailments or dis-ease.

If you have body aches or stiffness, or certain reoccurring emotions and fears, consult the information below to find out which chakra may be affected or blocked.

1st or Root Chakra

The base of your spine, at the tailbone

Physical and Emotional Signs:

The physical tell-tales include problems in the legs, feet, rectum, tailbone, immune system, male reproductive parts and prostrate gland. Problems here are also likely to include issues of degenerative arthritis, knee pain, sciatica, eating disorders, and constipation. The emotional part of it can be feelings affecting our basic survival needs: money, shelter and food; ability to provide for life’s necessities.

When Balanced:

When this chakra is correctly aligned, you feel supported, a sense of connection and safety to the physical world, and grounded. The lesson of this chakra is self-preservation; you have a right to be here.

2nd or Sacral Chakra

Two inches below your belly button

Physical and Emotional Signs:

Physically, the issues consist of sexual and reproductive issues, urinary problems, kidney dysfunction, hip, pelvic and low back pain. Emotionally, you may need alignment when your commitment to relationships, and your ability to express our emotions, your ability to have fun, play based on desires, creativity, pleasure, sexuality, are out of whack, or if we are feeling fear of impotence, betrayal, addictions.

When Balanced:

When everything is in order, you have an ability to take risks, be creative, and be committed through the second chakra. You are more passionate, sexual and outgoing. The lesson of this chakra is to honor others.

3rd or Solar Plexus Chakra

Three inches above your belly button

Physical and Emotional Signs:

Physically, digestive problems, liver dysfunction, chronic fatigue, high blood pressure, diabetes, stomach ulcers, pancreas and gallbladder issues, and colon diseases are all among the problems. Emotional signs cover issues of personal power and self-esteem, such as when your inner critic comes out (i.e. fears of rejection, criticism, concern over physical appearances).

When Balanced:

When this chakra is balanced, you feel self-respect and self-compassion. You feel in control, assertive and confident. The lesson of this chakra is self-acceptance.

4th or Heart Chakra

The heart

Physical and Emotional Signs:

Physical ailments include asthma, heart disease, lung disease, issues with breasts, lymphatic systems, upper back and shoulder problems, arm and wrist pain. Emotional imbalances are issues of the heart, such as over-loving to the point of suffocation, jealousy, abandonment, anger, bitterness, and an inexplicable fear of loneliness.

When Balanced:

You feel joy, gratitude, love and compassion, forgiveness flows freely, trust is gained. The lesson of this chakra is to love others and yourself.

5th or Throat Chakra

The throat

Physical and Emotional Signs:

Thyroid issues, sore throats, laryngitis, ear infections, ulcers, any facial problems (chin, cheek, lips, tongue problems) neck and shoulder pain will tell you if this chakra is out of balance. Emotional imbalances include issues of self-expression through communication, either verbally or written. You may also fear having no power or choice, no willpower, or being out of control.

When Balanced:

You have free flowing of words, expression, communication. You are honest and truthful, yet firm. You are a better listener. The lesson of this chakra is to speak up and let your voice be heard.

6th or Third Eye Chakra

The middle of the eyebrows, in the center of the forehead

Physical and Emotional Signs:

Signs of physical imbalances include headaches, blurred vision, sinus issues, eyestrain, seizures, hearing loss, and hormone dysfunction. Emotional problems include issues with moodiness, volatility, and self-reflection. You may also experience an inability to look at your own fears, and refusal to learn from others. You may day dream a little too often and live in a world with exaggerated imagination rather than being present. You may be easily fooled.

When Balanced:

You will feel clear, focused, and able to determine between truth and illusion. You are open to receiving wisdom and insight. The lesson of this chakra is to see the big picture.

7th or Crown Chakra

The crown of the head

Physical and Emotional Signs:

Bodily ailments include depression, inability to learn, and sensitivity to light, sound, and environment. Emotional imbalances include problems with self-knowledge and greater power. Imbalances may come up from rigid thoughts on religion and spirituality, and constant confusion. You might carry prejudices like “analysis paralysis.” You may also feel a fear of alienation.

When Balanced:

Once fixed, we live in the present moment. We have an unshakable trust in our inner guidance. The lesson of this chakra is live mindfully.

More than one chakra blocked? It’s very common. When one is blocked, the other chakras begin to compensate and either become overactive or under-active.

What are Crystal Singing Bowls?

Crystal singing bowls are sound healing instruments that are made from pure crushed quartz and heated to about 4000 degrees in a centrifugal mold. They are available in clear or frosted bowls in a variety of sizes, ranging from 6 to 24 inches in diameter. The bowls emit a powerful, pure resonance. Each bowl is tuned to a different music note. The notes, C, D, E, F, G, A, B correspond with one’s energy centers or chakras. Some bowls harmonize with other bowls, and when both are played simultaneously, the effect is exquisite and synergistic.

Crystal bowl therapy, commonly used by alternative health practitioners in sound healing sessions and/or ceremonies, helps to balance the chakra system and re-energize the auric field. These body and energy work practitioners have found that sessions with clients are dramatically more effective with the addition of crystal sound therapy. Clients immediately go into a state of full receptivity and relaxation. This allows the practitioner to go deeper and more easily reach underlying issues. Healing is thus made possible on all levels. Each individual is unique as to which energy center(s) require balancing, so you may find yourself drawn to different tones each time you experience them.

The notes of the crystal singing bowls are tuned to specific vibrational frequencies found within the human body. Thus when the sound moves through the atmosphere and touches us, it causes our cells to move in different directions at a different speed, in rhythm with the sound wave. This puts us in harmony with the sound wave. The sound penetrates into our very cells and rebalances them through oscillation and resonance. Hearing is not a prerequisite for benefiting from these healing properties. Studies have shown that sound has a direct impact on the mental processes, muscles, nervous system, (heartbeat, pulse) digestive system and circulatory system. Alignment with the tones of the Singing Crystal Bowls is one of the most dynamic forms of sound healing found today.

Dr. Mitchell Gaynor, director of Medical Oncology and Integrative Medicine at the Cornell Cancer Prevention Center in NY has been using sound, including Tibetan Bowls, Crystal bowls and chanting in work with cancer patients for many years. “If we accept that sound is vibration and we know that vibration touches every part of our physical being, then we understand that sound is heard not only through our ears but through every cell in our bodies. One reason sound heals on a physical level is because it so deeply touches and transforms us on the emotional and spiritual planes. Sound can redress imbalances on every level of physiologic functioning and can play a positive role in the treatment of virtually any medical disorder.” According to an article in Spirituality and Health magazine, his research shows that the sound vibration of the bowls affects the disrhythmic motion found in cancer cells and cause a harmonious transformation.

Research by Dr. David Simon, medical director of neurological services at Sharp Cabrillo Hospital in San Diego, who now directs the medical services at the Chopra Center, found that chants are chemically metabolized into ‘endogenous opiates,’ that act on the body as internal painkillers and healing agents.

What is Crystal Therapy or Crystal Healing?

Crystals have been used, revered and enjoyed for many thousands of years, both for their aesthetic beauty and for the peace, relaxation and harmony they seem to invoke.

Crystal therapy is an ancient healing system concerned with treating patients holistically through the precise placement of crystals on the body and the surrounding room. This means that, unlike Western healthcare (which tends to focus on treating one symptom/ailment at a time) crystal therapy addresses the patient as a whole, paying as much attention to his or her spiritual and emotional well-being as to their physical health.

Crystal therapy is a non-invasive, relaxing, natural and enjoyable process. Whether you believe in the physical healing properties of crystals or not, the therapy itself will offer you a chance to lie back, relax and get in touch with your body’s energies so you can leave feeling refreshed, restored and de-stressed which is a perfect platform for improved physical health.

How does it work?

Crystal therapy is based on the premise that crystals can, in a sense, communicate with the energies flowing around the human body. On a microscopic level a crystal is a network of repeating geometric patterns made up of compressed ions, atoms and molecules. According to crystal therapy, every crystal has its own unique electromagnetic charge. These charges, or ‘healing vibrations’ interact with the body’s energy centers to remove energy blockages and restore a healthy flow through the body and mind.

Crystal therapists choose crystals carefully for each individual patient as each one is believed to have a unique healing power. Crystal therapists then place the chosen crystal on different areas of the body in a grid-like fashion designed to stimulate energy.

Sometimes the color of the crystal will be chosen to correspond with the color of each chakra energy point on the body. From the tip of the tailbone to the top of the head the colors are as follows: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.

What are Solfeggio Frequencies?

Solfeggio frequencies make up the ancient 6-tone scale thought to have been used in sacred music, including the beautiful and well known Gregorian Chants. These chants contained special tones or frequencies which, when sung in harmony, and in Latin, were believed to impart tremendous spiritual blessings during religious masses. Apparently, the combination of these sacred tones had the power to penetrate deep into the recesses of the subconscious mind and promote great healing and transformation. Each Solfeggio tone is comprised of a frequency required to balance your energy and keep your body, mind and spirit in perfect harmony.

How can they be used for healing today?

Some sound therapists and energy healers incorporate the use of specially made tuning forks that are designed to replicate the original Solfeggio frequencies in their sound healing sessions. These forks will open your energy channels, tune up and energize your body and surroundings as well as enhance and balance your energy levels.

Tuning forks were originally used to tune musical instruments, but because the forks generate very strong vibrations they have been adopted by healers, massage therapists, chiropractors, yoga practitioners, etc.

Vibration is everything. And every vibration has its own frequency. By exposing the mind and body to the Solfeggio frequencies, you can easily achieve a greater sense of balance and deep healing. The Solfeggio frequencies align you with the rhythms and tones that form the basis of the Universe.

The main six Solfeggio frequencies are:

396 Hzturning grief into joy, liberating guilt & fear

This frequency liberates the energy and has beneficial effects on feelings of guilt. It cleanses the feeling of guilt, which often represents one of the basic obstacles to realization, enabling achievement of goals in the most direct way. The ‘Ut’ tone releases you from the feeling of guilt and fear by bringing down the defense mechanisms. 396 Hz frequency searches out hidden blockages, subconscious negative beliefs, and ideas that have led to your present situations.

417 Hzundoing situations and facilitating change

The next main tone from the Solfeggio scale produces energy to bring about change. This frequency cleanses traumatic experiences and clears destructive influences of past events. When speaking of cellular processes, tone ‘Re’ encourages the cell and its functions in an optimal way. 417 Hz frequency puts you in touch with an inexhaustible source of energy that allows you to change your life.

528 Hztransformation and miracles (DNA repair)

Tone ‘Mi’ is used to return human DNA to its original, perfect state. This frequency brings transformation and miracles into your life. The process of DNA reparation is followed by beneficial effects – increased amount of life energy, clarity of mind, awareness, awakened or activated creativity, ecstatic states like deep inner peace, dance and celebration. Tone ‘Mi’ activates your imagination, intention and intuition to operate for your highest and best purpose.

639 Hzre-connecting and balancing, relationships

Another frequency from the sacred Solfeggio scale. It enables creation of harmonious community and harmonious interpersonal relationships. Tone ‘Fa’ can be used for dealing with relationships problems – those in family, between partners, friends or social problems. When talking about cellular processes, 639 Hz frequency can be used to encourage the cell to communicate with its environment. This ancient Solfeggio frequency enhances communication, understanding, tolerance and love.

741 Hzsolving problems, expressions/solutions

It cleans the cell (“Solve polluti“) from the toxins. Frequent use of 741 Hz leads to a healthier, simpler life, and also to changes in diet towards foods which are not poisoned by various kinds of toxins. Tone ‘Sol’ cleans the cell from different kinds of electromagnetic radiations. Another application of this sound frequency is solving problems of any nature. The fifth frequency of the Solfeggio scale will also lead you into the power of self-expression, which results in a pure and stable life.

852 Hzawakening intuition, returning to spiritual order

Tone ‘La’ is linked to your ability to see through the illusions of your life, such as hidden agendas of people, places and things. This frequency can be used as means for opening a person up for communication with the all-embracing Spirit. It raises awareness and lets you return to spiritual order. Regarding cellular processes, 852 Hz enables the cell to transform itself into a system of higher level.
